We have had SO much fun in the past couple of weeks! Joshua has been starting on solid foods (only rice cereal and oatmeal at this point...but, there's more to come)! We helped friends celebrate birthdays and family celebrate house-warmings. Derek started and completed his self-rescue swim. We had visits from Uncle Alex, Amanda, and Uncle Brian! Needless to say, we haven't updated in a bit...so, here goes nothing!
Aunt Susie helps Josh with some cereal.
Of course, with her balls necklace, Aunt Susie and Derek bond over some storybook time.
Josh is so happy at 22 weeks old.
ISR swim lessons are 10 minute (or less) daily lessons for 4 to 6 weeks (or until the student learns how to rescue oneself should they find themselves in water).
Derek prepares for his first ISR swim lesson.
Grandma feeds Josh some Oatmeal.
Derek teaches Josh how to "swim."
Since Derek was one of four boys in his class, he was Shabbat Abba a lot. This was his final shot at Shabbat Abba (and Bubby visited him at school for the happy occasion)!
Then it was time to head to the farm and celebrate Ethan's 4th Birthday!
Derek was excited about the cars and trucks...
...he liked the bounce house, too...
...and eating food!
Leave it to Derek to find the one T.V. on the farm.
Don't worry...he played in a electric-free house, too.
Derek really liked his new horse friend, "Aztec."
It was SO hot that day. Instead of driving all the way home, we decided to head to Bubby and Zaide's house (since the party was in Davie).
Derek arrived with freshly picked flowers for Bubby.
After a quick nap at B & Z's, we headed to the Holzman's house-warming!
Derek enjoyed his first-ever lollipop!
When he was greeted by Bailey...he asked where Harley was!
Bubby helped the boys take a tour of the house.
Lauren bonded with Josh...
....As did Patrick!
Meanwhile, Derek tried out every lounging place possible...
The only "normal" place Derek found to rest.
Bailey was generous enough to share beds.
You think he was tired from the days' activities?!
The Abbondandolo's are naturals!
Zaide rests with the boys.
Josh passed out on the way home.
Derek and Josh usually get along just fine....but, not on this particular day. Derek wasn't happy when Cherry said he couldn't play with his car near Josh's head. So, he put down the car and opened his hand. Needless to say, both boys got their nails cut that night! Derek felt bad because for the next week or so he kept saying, "don't worry, it's going to get better, right?"
Josh, unlike his brother, fights sleep like you would not believe. No, I'm not tired...
Derek loves playing with Josh. Josh, well, he could take it or leave it! :)
After two short weeks, Derek was ready to take his self-rescue out-test. The first day, Derek had to swim with all of his clothes on (regular diaper and shoes included). On the final day, he did this in winter clothes (hoodie and sweatpants, too)!
Hanging out at the Y before our swim.
Victory!
Such a proud swimmer!
His heavy diaper was quite entertaining...
...and cute!
Really HEAVY too!
Cleans up well, doesn't he?!
Of course, after swim is the perfect time to check on our garden:
First we water...
Then we check on our crop (this is a raspberry plant)! We still cannot figure out why the berries are so dark, but they do taste delicious!
Eating them off the vine (watch out for the thorns)!
Seeeeeeeeee my berry!
We have to water the veggies, too!
In other news...Josh, at 23 weeks, is super cute:
Hanging out, waiting for some real food.
Relaxing before dinner time.
I love hanging out during dinner time!
Unfortunately, Josh has thrush, took meds for it for three weeks, and it still hasn't gone away. So, Daddy took him to the doc and they treated him with this violet concoction. It really made Josh's blue eyes POP!
Meanwhile, Derek and Mommy completed swimming!
When we got home, we couldn't believe how purple Josh's mouth was...
...Derek just kept staring!
But, don't worry, he can still eat!
Here is Derek's ISR out-test (in winter clothes):
He's officially through with lessons! We were swimming in our own pool and he really has it down!!
On the very last day of lessons, Derek was back in a regular suit. He learned everything just in time because the following day Derek feel face first into the pool stairs after throwing a ball to Uncle Alex (Uncle Alex spent the rest of the day letting us know he saved a life)!
Derek made the board of "graduating" at 2.5 years (in only 2 weeks)!
So, we cleared out the locker and headed home!
The next weekend, we woke up to a visitor in our backyard...
He was pretty big!!!
We named him Yurtle.
Uncle Brian came to visit (since the Cubbies were playing the Marlins that night):
Uncle Bri read Derek a story before nap time.
Uncle Brian said Aunt Rachel reads the stories better, but Derek didn't seem to mind!
Mommy had a turn with both Boys paying attention.
What a cutie!
Off to the Cubbies game!
Bobble head Harry Caray
Panorama of the fam at the game!
The next morning....
Derek woke Uncle Brian up...
And, naturally, played ALL OVER HIM!
Before we knew it, Uncle Brian left and Uncle Alex and Amanda arrived!
Uncle Alex always brings out the goofy in Derek.
Daddy is worn out by these boys!
They're just SO cute!!
Amanda helps the boys rest from a long day of fun!
Ed helps Derek shake hands with Max (Jeremy's Dog).
Ellen cuddles with Josh.
It's usually Zaide making the funny faces.
Playing games at the dinner table!
She's SO funny!
I hope they're not hungry!
Zaide saves the day!
It was so fun to hang out with Uncle Alex and meet Amanda! We can't wait for our visit to DC!!!
