Joshua is 5 months old!

Today, Josh is 5 months old.  Time really does fly when you're having fun.  SO much fun, that we had a lot of "firsts" over the weekend:
  • Josh's first food (rice cereal, yum!)
  • Josh's first carousel ride (maybe we shouldn't have tried these out in the same day??)
  • Josh's first trip to the zoo!
We had lots of fun this past week...

Josh liked wearing overalls (but not as much as Cherry loved seeing him in them)!

Derek tries on his first pair of flip flops!

He also likes modeling in his new summer sandals!

Lastly, he shows off his new water shoes -- Derek begins ISR lessons today!  These are the type of swim lessons, Mommy, Uncle Ari, and Uncle Brian had when they were young.  Derek was taking swim lessons the past 2 years, but these tactics would truly save a life (check out the video on the link)!
 Resting up for Derek...
Josh tends to fall asleep while eating...and, a lot of the time, he falls asleep in this pose.  Oy, somebody has a case of the Monday's!

Nothing like a cat nap at Grandma and Papa's.

One last bath with Grandma before she leaves us for a week!

Check out our kicks!

They really make us smile!

Derek tries to give Josh a lesson in crawling.

Nothing is quite as entertaining as a box.  Especially if you can hide, play, and have a snack in it, too!
Anyone want a craisin?  They're crazy raisins!
Does this give "box lunch" a new meaning?
On Saturday, we were finally able to get together with the Cobo family (poor Ilan kept getting sick and we were never able to celebrate his 1st birthday together).  We were trying to prompt Derek for the sharing he would need to take part in when they arrived.  We asked Derek, "What toys would you like to share with little Ilan?"  Naturally, Derek responds, "Josh's toys!"

Alexis and Josh have a moment.

Derek and Ilan play with some cars and run around.

On Sunday, we decided it would be a nice day for a trip to the zoo!

Derek heard Josh wake up before anyone.  Maybe he was trying to tell him about the Monkeys at the zoo?

Either way, Josh seemed entertained!

Derek had a breakfast in the shape of a pretty sun!

Josh chewed on his toys....

Derek "read" Josh a story before having lunch.
We asked Derek who would join us for our zoo trip...he said, "Bubby, Zaide, Papa, Mommy, Daddy, Joshua, and Uncle Ari!"  Well, we do know he's an animal...maybe next time around, Uncle Ari!
Bubby, Zaide, and Papa all joined us for the zoo, too!
But, first, we gave Josh his first taste of real food (rice cereal...if you consider that to be "food")!  He did fairly well and caught on and seemed eager to eat it all up by the end!

Then, it was off to the zoo!  Derek rested on the way....

When we first got there, we saw a Bird Show!
Bubby and Derek meet the owl (with a 6 foot wing span)!
Derek was very good about keeping his fingers away from the fence (he was warned the birds could peck at them)....
...but none of us thought this bird would peck through the fence and get Derek's nose!!!  Luckily, Derek laughed, grabbed his nose, and said, "he got my nose!"
Next we went to visit the tortoises.  We didn't get a picture of them, but Derek made an acute observation: "That's a dead one.  I want to see a new one!"  Well, we do know they're slow...maybe this is why!

Papa helps Derek take a picture.

Derek shows us how a flamingo stands on one leg!

Taking pictures of the animals is fun.

Josh has his first carousel ride!

Out of all of the animals...Derek chose to ride the spinning tea cup.

Bubby didn't want to spin, so she opted to help Josh ride the tiger!

Here's some video of it all:

We saw so many animals.  Derek liked checking out the size of the bald eagle's nest:

By the end of the visit, the two boys were "monkeying" around:

It was a great day!

Everyone was ready for bed!

This evening, Aunt Susie came by to celebrate Josh's 5th month and feed him during his 2nd time trying rice cereal:

Josh liked it so much, he was helping Aunt Susie feed himself!

Aunt Susie read a book with Derek (and even played with the squeaky bird in the book)!

Happy to be 5 months old!

Hard to keep these eyes open....good night everyone!
