The boys have truly been enjoying school. Through projects, performances, and play -- they really are learning and experiencing a lot!
Josh completed a unit in school on the environment (recycling, animals, etc.) He was asked to cut out a leaf shaped picture and show/tell what he will do to help the environment. So, naturally, we went into our very own yard and "recycled" materials that were already there! He found a leaf and picked up some trash in the yard. He glued his findings to the leaf and then asked Mommy to write "I will pick up garbage when I play outside."
Proud of his work. And VERY proud to have HW.
He always wants to do hw alongside Derek.
Meanwhile, back at school, Josh was able to handle some worms and learn about other parts of nature.
We even get to see some great work put out by Josh's class. Here's a BIG book (each student makes a page). Then the books get sent home for one evening! Here's the class' version of "My Perfect Pumpkin.
"It's a pumpkin," says Joshua.
Our New Year's celebration may have ended weeks ago, but the Chinese New Year celebration is just beginning! Derek and his Mandarin class had the honor of performing a few songs at this year's Lunar New Year celebration!!!
Lunch with Mrs. Cara Rosenberg before the big performance after school.
Dressed and ready!
Not too nervous before their performances!
Getting lined up!
Waiting to begin!
All the right dance moves...

Proud Mommy
Goofballs!
Josh and Benji enjoyed the games and festivities, too!
Trying the Chinese yo yo.
Benji thinks they're drumsticks.
Fun for all!
Mommy's student Zhaoyu (Andrew) helps Benji with his technique.
Fast friends!
Dana shows 'em how it's done!
Benji thinks skateboarding is part of the celebration.
For dinner, Derek ate with his new friends!
Another social butterfly in the making.
Yet, he can't handle the late nights, yet!
He doesn't just learn Mandarin at NB. Derek is definitely being kept busy!
Field trips, too!
Great seats for their field trip to see a play.
Next stop -- the pet shelter!
Cats.
Dogs.
Back to school for more interactive play and fun:
Derek and Alexander sharing their imaginative artwork.
Tinkering with friends.
Hands-on math skills!
The taste of victory!
But it sure is tiring.
So tiring, you can't even make
it all the way to your bed!
Then come the creative concepts of making things out of recycled materials and putting together your newly formed knowledge to make meaningful projects.
Martin Luther King, Jr.
"Martin Luther King, Jr. is nice."
Aborigine Mask Art
Of course, work doesn't always stay at school. Derek's homework was to watch the Groundhog report to us about the next few weeks of weather (not that we've actually had any winter here this year).
Derek reports what the groundhog found!
Josh wants to be a part of it, too!
Derek's groundhog's day homework
Josh's groundhog report
Benji had to get in on the action, too, of course!
Other school projects include learning about MLK, Jr. and Aboriginal Art Masks
As if the school day weren't long enough, now there's religious school! Derek is enjoying his fun with youth group events, too!
Meanwhile....Benji is STILL eating....
Derek and Josh had their first t-ball clinic. It was a great day of fielding, hitting, and learning proper form for various skills!
Derek "clowing around" at a friend's birthday party!
Benji is also playing with friends, constructing, and learning each day!
Painting with pigs -- a kosher style art activity.
Cocoons!
GO fish!
Exploring
Young love.
Another beautiful sunset in South Florida to end the month of January.
