Josh's first time being Shabbat Abba

As we approach the Thanksgiving Holiday, Derek and Joshua have learned a lot about the holiday while at school.  Additionally, Derek has been a great big brother to Benji (now 6 weeks old), and Josh had his first chance of being the Shabbat Abba!
Grandma reads her A, B, C book to the boys.
This book is full of goodies!

Derek was sent home a blank feather which he needed to decorate full of things he's thankful for. First he wanted his hand traced in the center.  Then he put a big "4" sticker in the middle, "because I'm four!"  Then he wrote his name at the bottom.  Next he added the smiley faces.  "This one is me with my brudders - Joshie and Benjie," as he points to the top three smiley faces.  Then he points at the red faces, "This is Daddy and this is Mommy with baby Benji when he was in her belly," pointing at the third smiley face.  He then added the Jewish star, kiddush cup, and shabbat candles, "because I love G-d!"  Then he added the "life is a beach" sticker at the top because "I like the beach," and the flowers and sunglasses at the bottom because "I really like going on nature walks."
Derek completed feather homework.

Mommy and Daddy decided to try retakes for the school photos (they didn't realize the school takes shots with the two boys together)!  Unfortunately, only one set of teachers knew we wanted retakes. Good thing we snapped a cute shot on the way out the door!

Thing 1 and Thing 2

After Derek created his feather for school, he asked for a blank piece of paper so he could make some artwork for Benji's wall.  Here is what he came up with:

We framed and hung this masterpiece immediately.
At 6 weeks old, Benji was happy to have the new piece to look at:

In fact, he felt as if this were an art gallery and decided he needed to dress for the occassion.

Meanwhile, back at school, Bubby and Mommy joined Joshua for his first chance at becoming Shabbat Abba!

This was in the hallway on the walk to Josh's class.
Shabbat Shalom!
Derek was allowed to leave his class and join the celebration.  He waited patienly for Josh's class to arrive.
The man of the day!

These boys are so silly together....even in temple.
A little visit from Miss Myriam
And a tickle session from Derek.

Barbag celebrates 'Bat!
L'chaim!
Mommy blesses her boys:

The best part of being Shabbat Abba....

Josh touches the torah.

...dibs on first Challah!

Josh just loves singing to the songs of the shabbat service:

Miss Myriam (aka Bim Bam -- this is what Josh calls her) called Joshie up to have the classes sing and wish him a very happy birthday!

Derek then escorted his brother back to his class to continue the celebration.

The boys gave tzedakah:

Only a toddler can make Challah last this long!

Miss Heather lead the prayers.

Josh helps with Shabbat prayers.

Even the class sang to Josh and wished him a happy 2nd birthday:

The Barbag Boys chow down on Challah, fruit, and celebratory cupcakes!

After eating, Derek had to go to the potty, and Josh insisted on washing his hands -- Mommy couldn't resist this silly shot:

After tot Shabbat, Bubby joined us for some fun at home:

Tummy time with Benji.

Bubby and Derek read The Book With No Pictures  (This book is phenomenal!  If you have not done so already, check it out!  Literally, go to your library and check it out...although, you may just want a copy for yourself)!

It's a team effort to burp baby Benji (he's one gassy kid)!

Earlier in the week, Derek's class had fun with music and discovering measuring and sorting techniques using the gourds leftover from Halloween!

All of the Barbags are getting along so well together!

The boys are so loving to one another....most of the time!

Josh shows off his silly face while hanging out in Benji's room.

First cool day of the year, calls for "winter" clothing in South Florida (anywhere else and they'd be dressed in shorts, most likely)!

Benji weathers his first "cold snap."

Benji rocks his knitted cap and woven blanket (thanks Auntie Audrey) to match with his buddy, Elmo!
Mommy is able to do great things with all of the boys in the last few weeks of maternity leave.

Breaking Barbags -- Mind Blowing Experiments!

Careful with measuring and stirring.

All of these experiments are hard work!
While the big guy rests, the middle one plays...

Mr. Potato Head...

...Buckets of Fun!

Then it's off to Grandma's to make some chocolate chip cookies!
