When we started writing this post, it was Super Bowl time, so the title was more relevant. But, now you'll just have to accept the fact that the two Barbag Boys are cuter than any puppy in the puppy bowl (and those are the cutest of the cute)!
Thursday afternoon, Mommy took Derek and Joshua to meet up with her very first Department Chair (from when Mommy taught in Philadelphia)! She has not seen Sarah in years, but it was like they had never parted.
She captured Derek's heart and he snuggled right up to her with a nice chocolate milk!
In School, Derek was Shabbat Abba, again. (I guess that's what
happens when there's only 4 boys in the class). Either way, it's so
cute to see Derek play with his friends at school and celebrate Shabbat.
The proud Abba.
Saying the shema.
Getting the first piece of challah!
It was so big, he was still eating it while lining up to go back to class!
Dancing and singing to celebrate Shabbat with Miss Lani.
Wearing his Shabbat Robe.
Working on some fine motor skills.
Dancing with Derek's friend.
Playing with neat colors and shapes.
Discovering texture with food!
Helping Miss Lani Sweep up a mess (she said she's never had a student help her with a dustpan)!
Strengthening our upper body muscles by coloring under a table!
Doing a little Shabbat Dance:
Waiting patiently for snack.
It was delicious!
Especially because we had cupcakes to celebrate Shabbat Imma, Jaelyn's birthday!
Here comes Derek walking to the carpool line.
We had a special lunch with Grandma and her friend, Penny!
We had lots of brother time Friday afternoon:
Blurry, but Daddy was making Josh smile SO big!
Such a happy guy.
Just the little boys...
...Daddy couldn't resist the fun.
Mommy with her boys!
Friday night we had a great dinner at Grandma and Papa's with two out-of-town guests: Aunt Karen and Uncle Lester!
Aunt Karen is excited to meet Baby Josh!
Derek leads everyone on a nature walk!
All that fresh air really tired Josh out!
Derek tries potty time at Grandma's (more flushing than potty-ing).
For Super Bowl we had the Karasiks over for the game:
Derek set up his chairs all around the table, so we could all have dinner while watching the game!
Joshua and Zachary, one week apart!
Derek tells the boys all about the game.
Derek shushing them to sleep.
"Faking the pass" with Seth!
Nothing like bedtime with Seth.
Josh and his tummy time:
Lifting his head up tall at 11 weeks old.
Derek tries soothing his brother when he cries.
Derek captures Josh in a "Kodak moment."
Derek thinks his brother, Josh, is "So Cute!":
Derek the constructive one...
Even Matt popped by to meet Josh and tickle Derek!
Derek loves "weighing" people with his tape measure!
Josh is really trying to flip these days:
Derek is such a good big brother:
Derek shares his favorite seal with little Joshie. It sure makes them both happy!
Brotherly love.
Derek really loves chatting with Cherry's kids! Kerry is constantly e-mailing and skyping with Derek from London! Meanwhile, back at home, Derek enjoys a lunch outing with Dave!
Derek gets to visit Dave at work! (Thanks, Dave, for a great lunch, too)!
Mommy has been having some postpartum "nesting." She has been cleaning every orifice of the house and reorganizing! Uncle David and Address the Mess would be proud! Special thanks to Bubby Linda for all of her patience and help.
Child Labor - Derek crawls under the bed to reach for something that Mommy couldn't reach. He loved every minute of it!
Derek loves the goodies Mom has come across while cleaning!
Derek snuggles Josh with his favorite "friends."
Smiles for family time!
Lining up all of the best toys for Josh!
Cherry and her boys!
Derek and Josh had fun playing with Sophia and Emily the other night. (Alex had to work late for Parent-Teacher conferences, so Mommy and Jenny hung out and we all had a great dinner together):
Josh recently turned 12 weeks old!
Happy to keep growing!
Having fun dressing up!
Derek is so proud to be a big brother.
This is a picture of our monitor -- Derek pulled up his step-stool and was pointing out the animals on the mobile. Josh seems to understand what he's saying, too!
Waiting out front to see the recycle man pass by!
Derek's school has lots of breaks and professional development days. So, we decided to have a play-date with the Shemesh family! The twins, Gabi and Ella, are two of Derek's best friends from class:
Tea time for everyone - Minnie included!
Irith reads a great book to all of the kids!
Playing in Derek's bed...
...pretending to take naps!
Snuggling and getting ready for bedtime that night!
Of course, what would a week be without visits from out-of-towners? This time, it's Safta and Uncle Alex in from DC!
Cherry starts off her day with deep conversations with these young intellectuals.
Derek shows Safta the "Alex" Train.
We left Josh on his back, came back a minute later, and he's nearly flipped over...
...Are you just going to stare at me? Or are you going to help me complete my flip?
When Mommy first began teaching in Inner City Philadelphia, she took over for Mrs. Tavelman, who was retiring mid-year. Each year Susan and her husband, Jerry come to town and we get together. They are so much fun!
Susan meets Josh for the first time.
We had so much fun, we barely took any pictures! Until next year....
Now, back to our DC/MD guests....
One last visit before heading back North.
Uncle Alex knows how to entertain!
Grandma provides Derek with a Smore - Older Barbags rebel!
Josh and Safta, one last time!
Thanks for visiting!
Having all this company, sure is tiring!
It seems to put everyone in a daze.
Derek tries to wear out the dog next door!
Meanwhile, Josh is "still living at home."
Uncle Alex told him to follow this advice for as long as possible!
Derek is dressed in Pink, by Grandma, yet again. Poor kid can't catch a break!
Derek has a fancy PB & J wrap...with bananas!
Derek is very proficient with Mommy's iPhone. He can turn it on, play games...and, apparently, take pictures!
Unfortunately, Derek has been a bit under the weather. When Mommy came out from feeding Josh, Derek had climbed up on the kitchen chair and was eating her oatmeal and crying because it was too far away....poor kid.
Derek has had to stay home from school twice this week. So, we created a fun, actively engaged school environment at home! (Not to worry, Derek's class called him today to make sure he was feeling okay and to let him know they miss him. Derek was quite the conversationalist...it was really cute)!
Trying out the magnetic whiteboard.
Mixing colors, while painting a masterpiece, of course!
Trying out my other new easel!
Josh tries his hand at "school," by raising it!
Josh was very happy to snuggle with Bubby.
Josh was mesmerized by Safta...
...and Mickey!
But truly loved hanging with Zaide.
Derek enjoys a cakepop with Safta.
One last snuggle with Grandma!
Of course, as one set of family leaves, another arrives! This time it's Bauby M and Zaide Shelly (along with Sara Lee) for the next few weeks! We'll also have special visits by the Godfathers (Aaron and Eric), and Aunt Shana and Uncle Brian! It's going to be great!!!
One last sick day from school...hopefully!
Chillin' at home makes this guy happy!
Mac 'n Cheese mustache anyone?
Picked flowers for Mommy, Bauby M, and Bubby Linda while on his nature walk!
Josh dreams of the day he'll be old enough to go to school!
Zaide and Derek try out the chalkboard.
Josh is happy everyone is in town visiting!
Derek and Zaide discuss dinner options.
Who me?
Derek helps out with the laundry...sort of.
No, Grandma, don't take Derek out with the trash!
With so many people in town over the next week or so, we hope to update again soon! Until then, we'll leave you with some funny events of the past weeks:
A few weeks back Derek was leaving school. On his way out, he turned around, ran up to his friend Lila, and kissed her on her lips (right in front of her Mom, too). Should we be worried??
Derek's new "go to" phrase is, "I have to check my e-mail." Luckily, Kerry sends us great photos and e-mails for Derek to view!
Derek often highjacks Mommy's phone. So, she trained Siri to respond to "Derek." Derek turned on the phone and told Siri to "Call." This led to an impromtu call to Eric Call, his godfather. (Needless to say, a great conversation was had by all).
Conversation between Mommy and Derek (as Josh is crying):
Mommy to Derek: I think Josh has a tummy ache.
Derek: He wants something.
Mommy: What does he want?
Derek: Ummmm, he wants Cheerios from your boobies.
It is so good to know where to get those Cheerios!
