Birthdays, Hurricane, and Yom Kippur

After a long while since South Florida has been threatened with a hurricane, we must prepare for a Category 4 storm - Hurricane Matthew
Everybody is trying to keep their minds light,
while preparing for the worst.

Of course, Hurricane Matthew would threaten us during Benji's 2nd Birthday and Derek's 6th Birthday!  School was cancelled and we spent the majority of the time preparing our home and ourselves.

Guess Hurricane Matthew isn't the only one trying not to celebrate Benji's birthday!

He finally perked up and had a great birthday, afterall!

Bubby and Zaide made sure to facetime to wish Benji a happy birthday (since they couldn't come up this way with the storm approaching)!

Packed up and ready for the storm.

After we brought all of the outside furniture in, we had the Faermans (our neighbors and friends) come over to help celebrate the boys' birthday before going into lockdown.

Sami, Ethan, and Bari made beautiful cards for the boys!

Birthday presents!!!

Can you guess what Grandma and Papa got for Benji?

The Many Margoli were concerned for us with the storm,
but certainly didn't want to miss a chance to facetime
and wish Benji and Derek Happy Birthdays.  We let the
girls know we were safe, prepared, and ready for anything!

Derek woke up nice and early and was able to see his birthday present right away!

We lucked out and the storm stayed off the east coast of Florida -- this allowed us to enjoy the afternoon with new birthday presents and even some sunshine!

Benji's got awesome super heroes costumes -- ALL of the Barbag Boys love them!!

Because the storm stayed away, Mommy and Daddy quickly put together an impromptu birthday celebration for Derek's 6th Birthday!

Because we had cake the day before, we told Derek he could have a Cantaloupe Cake instead of Birthday Cake....

Nah, we're not THAT mean!

Derek 6th bday wish

Got ya!!!

Happy REAL Birthday Cake (not a cantaloupe cake like we said).

Thank you EVERYBODY for joining us for the celebration!

A beautiful sky after a BIG storm!

Neighbors enjoying the day together.

Bari had SO much fun, she even spent the night!

The weekend after the storm was filled with lots of Theater outings.  Mommy went with her friends to see RENT.

Cheers to the Mermaids!
Even Bubby got to crash the party -- she didn't really want to, but Mommy thinks she ended up having fun anyway!

Derek was treated to a Jaxson's Celebration with Bubby and Zaide -- along with a sleepover!

The next morning was the beginning of the Family Fun Series at our local theater.  The first show the boys got to see was "Goodnight Moon and Runaway Bunny."  The set was incredible and very well done.  They even had arts & crafts and face-painting beforehand, as well as Hoffman's Chocolates sponsoring a post-show snack!

The finished products!

Thanks, Bubby, for joining us!

Of course, with birthdays comes annual check-ups!  Next stop -- Dr. Cohen's office!
All smiles before entering

Benji weighed in at 24 lbs and 32.5 inches tall.

Derek weighed in at 41 lbs and 42.7 inches tall.

Derek is always thrilled to converse with his doctor!

Benji was a bit apprehensive, but did great!

Derek spends some quality time with Salem before Grandma had to put her to sleep.  We will miss you Salem -- thanks for always being the socialite you were (aka hiding from everyone and everything) - we love you and will sorely miss you!

Heading over to Grandma and Papa's for a feast before our fast --- Mommy realized this is her first fast in 6 years (after being pregnant, breast feeding, being pregnant, breast feeding, being pregnant, and breastfeeding the last few years)!

During dinner Mommy noticed Benji rubbing his nose, sneezing, and then she saw a small tiny green thing up Benji's nose...or so she thought it was tiny.  She grabbed Grandma's tweezers (because it was really up there), and when she pulled it out, it was the biggest pea you'd ever seen...allllll the way up Benji's nose)!

Can you see the size of that thing?!

The next morning we went to some beautiful and meaningful services (and the boys cleaned up well, too)!

When you look to your side and keep thinking Uncle Brian
is in services with you (and somebody else's baby).
We definitely found his doppleganger!

We were able to enjoy another wonderful Break Fast with the Wilens.  Thanks for having all of us!!!

Benji shares his dessert with Grandma.

Feeding her one tiny sliver at a time!

A few post-facto birthday celebrations, now that the weather has cleared!
